We have many friends and sponsors on the Hatteras Island that have endured a most difficult time since Hurricane Irene came. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who lost it all and also to those that stepped in and helped those in need. It truly shows what the power of the human spirit can do in devastating times.

We have decided to move the contest this year only to Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC with the original starting date of September 18, 2011 and the original heats and schedules. Be advised that you are strongly urged to follow www.SURFESA.org for any and all updates on a daily basis.

The Eastern Surfing Association will also be holding a “Boots on the Beach” Benefit in conjunction with the WRV Hurley Pro throughout the week to benefit those on the island. If you have any school items, bedding, clothing, can goods, money, etc. that you would personally like to bring to donate, please do so.

More information will be posted over the weekend, so please check back,

BP Summertime Blues

Summertime Blues Art/Memorabilia Auction

Saturday, February 26 • 7:00pm - 10:00pm
________________________________________
Location The Watermark, Atlantic Station A.B.
________________________________________
Created By The Buddy Pelletier Surfing Foundation

________________________________________
More Info Great time...Great Cause. Please note that the entry process has changed from years past. YOU will be responsible for your own entry. YOU must submit your entry ON TIME to Central Headquarters, not to me. There will be no slack in the deadline. You either enter on time or go to the bottom of the list of qualifiers. It will be out of my hands. You have a choice of entering electronically using a credit card (fees apply) or downloading the entry form and sending it with $$ to headquarters in VA Beach. The same deadline applies.

The entry form and link for electronic online entry is on the ESA Midatlantic webpage. The online entry option includes a convenience fee which is listed on the online entry link. Competitors can enter either online or by US Mail. Mail entries go directly to CHQ, not me. The entry deadline is 11:59 PM Monday, March 28, 2011.

Entrants must have a valid membership thru September 2011. I previously sent each of you a Regionals Eligible list which included the membership expiration of all your Region eligible people. The majority of the eligible athletes in all the Districts need to renew thru 9/30/11 when they enter. Entrants that need to renew their membership should do both online or both by mail. They should not, for example, enter the event by snail mail and renew their membership online. If an entry comes into CHQ either electronically or by mail and a membership renewal is needed that entry will be held in abeyance until the renewal is done.

Alternates should send in their entry and fees and membership renewal via mail to avoid the paying the convenience fee in case they don’t get in. However, if you have a slot in one division and are an alternate in another division, then you can enter both divisions on online, by mail for both divisions or online for their slotted division and by mail for their alternate division. In any event, alternates who don’t get in will have their fees refunded within 30 days after the contest.

ESA website is www.surfesa.org Go to the Mid Atlantic page on the competition tab for entry forms or links to Active.com.

If you have questions, email me ASAP.
Beth
Early Regional entry information

For the first time, the Mid Atlantic Region will use an online entry process for Regionals. This will be a big change from past year’s entry process. **Note that paper entries may still be downloaded and sent in the old fashion way. All entries, both slotted and alternate, will be sent directly to headquarters or processed directly online. Deadlines will be strictly enforced. You could lose your slot if you are late! The majority of people wishing to go to Regionals will need to renew their membership. This can be done any time before Regionals and still maintain your same expiration date. If you choose to renew during the Regional entry process, you will need to go to two different web locations to do so. **I’ll send more instructions with links when the time comes. Save yourself some hassle by renewing in January or Feb.

With this new entry process, it is imperative that you check your email and confirm with me that you received your entry instructions. Do not expect to receive one in the mail like last year.

Winter address for CNC mail

If you need to correspond with ESA/CNC using the US post office this winter, please send all surfing association correspondence to: ESA/CNC, 108 Bogue Sound Drive E., Atlantic Beach, NC 28512 .
DO NOT ADDRESS your mail to Beth Schub……there will be a forward on my mail for anything with my name on it.

Congratulations to the 2010 Season Champions

<img style="float:left; The official dates are May 12-15.

To compete, you must be a 3A surfer, competed in at least 3 district contests last summer, and have an ESA membership that is valid through 10/1/11.

You may renew your membership any time before the Regional sign up time and not lose your original expiration date. The majority of competitors will need to renew. There is a strong likelihood that the Mid Atlantic Region will pioneer online entries for Regionals and memberships. (similar to Easterns in 2010). If this does happen, you will receive your entry electronically. It will be your responsibility to sign up online OR print and send it to Headquarters. Please make sure you check your email regularly so you don't miss out.

I will post updates on our website and send email reminders. While the Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) continues to support their members who participate in Surfing America events, the secrecy with which Surfing America instilled the Surfing America Prime Series, without the input of the ESA, led to a majority vote to leave the national governing body of surfing. In contrast to the bylaws that govern Surfing America, the ESA had no input in the conception, creation, and execution of the Surfing America Prime events- three of which are being held on the East Coast of the United States.
"Surfing America's refusal to create an amateur surfing committee that included the ESA, which is in direct opposition to their stated organizational founding, created an unprecedented event that resulted in the rescinding of our inclusion in Surfing America," stated Debbie Hodges, executive director of the Eastern Surfing Association. "While we would prefer to continue our involvement, the gall and lack of transparency demonstrated by Surfing America left our Board of Directors little choice in this matter."

Surfing America's continued refusal to provide ESA a voting stake, or input, with regards to the Surfing America Prime Series and other Surfing America-sanctioned competitions, resulted in the Board of Directors voting to remove support, contributions, and infrastructure to all aspects of Surfing America.

"As a founding member of Surfing America in 2004 our decision is not a knee-jerk reaction, nor is it one taken without significance," stated Hodges. "The ESA believes in the foundation of a governing body for amateur surfing that is inclusive, credible and provides standards for amateurs of all ages across the nation- values that founded Surfing America. Their desire to voluntarily act in bold disregard to our involvement does not support the reasons which led ESA to co-found Surfing America and therefore, we can no longer be associated with their actions moving forward."
Editor's Note: Electronic images and samples are available by contacting Ryan Marks of Lionize PR at 407.242.8548 or ryan@lionizepr.com

ABOUT EASTERN SURFING ASSOCIATION

Eastern Surfing Association (ESA), the largest amateur surfing association in the world established in 1967, is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting and preserving the spirit of surfing through their regional programs and through the support of 26 districts on the East Coast, Gulf Coast, Great Lakes and Puerto Rico.
